2. Our Curriculum Intent
The curriculum at Waterside Academy is designed to provide every pupil with a broad, ambitious and purposeful education that reflects both their individual starting points and the wider demands of adult life.
Our intent is to secure strong foundations in English, mathematics, science, reading and communication, while rebuilding engagement with education through clear routines, relevant learning, success and appropriately challenging experiences.
We address gaps in knowledge through careful sequencing, retrieval, assessment and targeted intervention, without unnecessarily narrowing the curriculum. Alongside the core academic offer, pupils access a wider curriculum that includes physical education, personal development, citizenship, digital life skills, extended curriculum and preparation for adulthood.
At Key Stage 4, pupils are supported to follow credible and personalised qualification pathways, including GCSEs, Functional Skills and other appropriate accreditation, with a strong focus on progression to education, employment or training.
Careers education, employer encounters, off-site learning and destination planning help pupils understand the opportunities available to them and develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for their next steps.
