Our curriculum combines strong academic foundations with the wider knowledge, experiences and personal development pupils need for life beyond Waterside.

Core Learning

English, mathematics and science provide the academic foundations of the curriculum. Reading, literacy and communication are developed across subjects so that pupils can access learning with increasing confidence and independence.

Personal Development

PSHE, citizenship, digital life skills and preparation for adulthood help pupils develop the knowledge needed to participate safely and responsibly in relationships, communities and wider society.

Physical Education and Wider Experiences

Physical education, extended curriculum and enrichment provide opportunities for pupils to develop confidence, teamwork, resilience and practical skills through appropriate challenge and experiences beyond the classroom.

Careers and Future Pathways

Careers and enterprise learning help pupils understand their strengths, interests and future options. As pupils move towards Key Stage 4, this becomes increasingly linked to qualifications, college, training, apprenticeships and employment.

Targeted Intervention

Intervention is used purposefully to address identified gaps or barriers while protecting pupils’ access to the wider curriculum.

The aim is to ensure that personalisation supports access and success without unnecessarily narrowing curriculum entitlement or lowering ambition.
